📋 Summary
Integrate RetroAchievements’ Want To Play list with LaunchBox’s new Game Progress tracking system, so that games marked as “Want To Play” on RetroAchievements automatically update to the same status in LaunchBox.
❗ Problem
RetroAchievements allows users to flag games in their profile as Want To Play, which is great for planning future sets.
LaunchBox already has Game Progress statuses (Not Started, In Progress, Completed, etc.) including Want To Play, but there’s currently no sync between the two systems.
This means users have to manually duplicate their lists between RetroAchievements and LaunchBox, losing out on the benefits of automation.
💡 Proposal
Use the RetroAchievements API endpoint: Get User Want To Play List
Automatically sync games from a user’s RetroAchievements Want To Play list into LaunchBox.
When a match is found between the RetroAchievements entry and the user’s LaunchBox library, update that game’s progress status in LaunchBox to Want To Play.
Ideally, this would run on a scheduled sync (similar to cheevo scans) or as part of existing RetroAchievements integration.
🧩 Use Case
A user browsing RetroAchievements marks Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as Want To Play.
Next time LaunchBox syncs with RetroAchievements, that game in the LaunchBox library is automatically updated to Want To Play under Game Progress.
📦 Benefits
Keeps backlogs consistent across both platforms.
Saves time by eliminating duplicate tracking work.
Leverages LaunchBox’s Game Progress automation to create dynamic playlists or badges for games marked as Want To Play.
Makes RetroAchievements and LaunchBox feel more tightly integrated.
