Support Wake-on-LAN for Accessing Network Drives

In the Launchbox app, when you choose the download option for a ROM that is stored on your NAS drive, if the NAS drive isn’t already awake then the Launchbox app will hang and then crash.

This is because the Wake-on-LAN function isn’t supported in the Launchbox app. You have to first use a third party app to wake up your NAS before the Launchbox app will communicate with it.

I asked a question in the forum if it was a possibility to support and it was confirmed that they could potentially add this support in the future.

Reasons why this would improve the Launchbox Android app:

  • Saves confusion of not knowing why the app crashes.

  • Less crashes, bug reports and questions in the forum.

  • Saves frustration when you crash the app because you forgot to open the third party app.

  • Saves having to remember opening another app before using Launchbox.

  • It’s a quicker process to just use Launchbox instead of loading a separate app and then loading Launchbox.

  • Better workflow: Open Launchbox, navigate to game, download game, rather than open third-party app, interact with NAS then opening Launchbox...

  • Launchbox was built to interact with different launchers seamlessly, it would be a regression to have to open a third party app before downloading a ROM.

  • Current method feels like a hack rather than a polished process.

  • Easier to explain the process with wake on LAN enabled
