📋 Summary
Bring the popular screensaver feature from Big Box into the Desktop version of LaunchBox. This would allow users who primarily use the Desktop interface to enjoy similar functionality, such as automatically displaying random games or media when the app is idle.
❗ Problem
Big Box now supports a built-in screensaver, but the Desktop interface does not.
Users who prefer to browse and manage their libraries in Desktop mode miss out on this functionality.
Idle time in Desktop mode could be better utilized with visual or engaging content instead of leaving the UI static.
💡 Proposal
Add a screensaver option to LaunchBox Desktop that activates after a user-defined idle time.
Screensaver could display:
Random games from the library (similar to Big Box).
Gameplay snaps or videos.
Box art, logos, or other selected media types.
Include customization options to choose what media types are shown and whether to pull from the entire collection, a single platform, or playlists.
🧩 Use Cases
A user managing their collection in Desktop mode steps away—screensaver kicks in and shows gameplay videos instead of a static screen.
Collectors can showcase random parts of their library on a secondary monitor.
Users can set it to cycle through specific playlists (e.g., favorites, in-progress games).
📦 Benefits
Brings parity with Big Box’s recent screensaver feature.
Makes the Desktop interface feel more dynamic and engaging.
Helps prevent screen burn-in when using LaunchBox on certain displays.
Offers another way to discover or revisit games in the collection.
