Propose a user interface reorganization of the LaunchBox Tools and related menus to improve clarity, grouping, and discoverability—especially for new users. This request does not suggest removing or changing any existing functionality, but rather restructuring the current options to reduce clutter and improve the overall UX.
The Tools menu has grown over time and now includes a wide mix of options that can be hard to navigate. Repetitive wording, loosely grouped items, and a flat structure make it challenging to find specific tools quickly—especially for users new to LaunchBox.
Introduce a more structured and intuitive layout to the Tools menu. One community member recently shared a thoughtful example on our forums, breaking the menu into cleaner, contextual groups such as:
🎮 Collection – Import, Add Game, Achievements, Audit
🧠 Metadata & Media – Metadata updates, image packs, community ratings
🧩 Emulators & Scripts – Emulator management, plugins, AutoHotKey
🛠️ Tools – Scan, file operations, cloud sync
⚙️ Settings & Help – Options, support, tutorials
🖥️ View – Filters, sorting, layout options
While this specific breakdown is just one interpretation, it highlights the value of clearer groupings, shorter labels, and more intuitive organization—making the menu easier to navigate without changing any existing functionality.
The key principle would be to apply UX best practices (e.g. grouping by purpose, limiting menu depth, and removing redundant verbs), while keeping the experience familiar for existing users.
Makes the Tools menu easier to scan and understand at a glance
Reduces visual and cognitive clutter for new users
Creates space for future tools and features with a more scalable layout
Allows the interface to feel more intentional and polished
