RetroPie Scraper Integration with LaunchBox Games Database

Overview

While LaunchBox currently doesn’t support Linux, many users build RetroPie setups on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 and rely on various scraping tools to gather box art, metadata, and other media for their game libraries. Integrating a RetroPie-compatible scraper that pulls from the LaunchBox Games Database would be a valuable addition for RetroPie users looking for a high-quality source of media.

Proposed Features

1) RetroPie Scraper for LaunchBox Games Database

• A dedicated scraper tool that allows RetroPie users to pull things like:

• Box art

• Clear logos

• Game titles & descriptions

• Screenshots

• Fanart/backgrounds

• Additional metadata (release date, publisher, genre, etc.)

• This scraper would function similarly to Skyscraper or Scraper for EmulationStation but use LaunchBox’s database as a source.

2) Platform & System Compatibility

• Designed to work with EmulationStation and RetroPie’s existing frontend structure.

• Support for Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, ensuring lightweight and efficient image scraping.

Benefits of This Feature

✅ Provides high-quality, curated artwork for RetroPie users.

Expands LaunchBox’s reach by supporting RetroPie, even before official Linux support.

✅ Offers an alternative to existing scrapers, some of which are outdated or pull lower-quality images.

✅ Helps unify game library management across multiple platforms.
