Summary:
Expand the current “Completed” badge system in LaunchBox to support multiple game status types—such as In Progress, Backlog, Completed, Mastered, or Abandoned—with distinct visual indicators to help users track their game progress at a glance.
Problem:
Currently, LaunchBox includes a “Completed” checkbox and a visual badge to mark games as finished. While this works for basic tracking, it doesn’t offer nuance for users who want to manage their backlog more deeply. Many of us use LaunchBox as both a launcher and a personal games database, and we’d love more granularity when marking game status 🎮⭐.
For example, some users may mark games as “Completed” because they finished them, while others mark them that way simply to indicate they’ve tried the game and don’t plan to return to it. Without more specific status types, it’s difficult to quickly see what’s truly been completed versus what’s just been shelved.
Proposal:
Enhance the badge system to support multiple game statuses, such as:
✅ Completed – Fully finished the game
🕹️ In Progress – Actively playing
📥 Backlog – Owned, but not yet started
💯 Mastered – 100% completed or platinumed
❌ Abandoned – Tried, but won’t revisit
These could be implemented as additional checkboxes, dropdowns, or tags within the game edit menu and shown as distinct badges in the library view.
Alternatively, the system could allow for customizable status badges, enabling users to define their own labels and icons.
Benefits:
Gives users more accurate and flexible control over tracking game progress
Offers a quick visual way to understand the status of each game
Encourages backlog management and goal setting
Enhances LaunchBox as a personal collection manager, not just a launcher
