LaunchBox already integrates with official achievement platforms like RetroAchievements and Steam, but many platforms—like Nintendo Switch, older PC games, and DOS titles—don’t support achievements at all. This request proposes a Manual Achievement Tracker, enabling users to create and track their own custom achievements for any game in their library.
Add a new section to the Edit Game Metadata page in LaunchBox that allows users to:
Create custom achievements for any game.
Add:
A title and description.
An optional thumbnail icon.
An optional proof screenshot.
View achievement progress in pause menus or from the game details page.
Mark achievements as completed with a click or controller button (for Big Box) directly from within the pause menu or game details page.
Tie custom achievements into the existing Game Progress Tracking system to combine existing achievements with custom ones.
This would:
Provide full achievement-style tracking for systems like Nintendo Switch, and DOS.
Let users track their own challenge goals or 100% objectives.
Supplement existing achievement systems with extra goals (e.g., free DLC milestones or speedrun/time trial targets).
A dedicated “Custom Achievements” panel would appear in the Game Details sidebar.
Manual achievement sets could be imported/exported for sharing (possibly even shared or stored on the LaunchBox games database site)
Add goals for games with no achievements like “Complete this level” or “Reach 100% collection.”
Create achievements for DLC campaigns or add-ons, in which the main achievement set doesn’t have any achievements for
Add custom time trial or speedrun goals not included in official achievement sets
Create personal goals for gatcha games, e.g track which rare characters or units you’ve pulled so you can monitor your collection progress across banners.
Universal achievement tracking—even for platforms with no native system.
Highly personalizable—track what matters to you.
Complements official sets, expanding what progress tracking can capture.
Deeply integrates with existing features, including:
Game Progress statuses (Beaten, Completed, etc.)
Playlists
Pause screen overlays
