Summary:
Bring Big Box’s marquee screen functionality to LaunchBox, allowing users to preview and utilize marquee displays while customizing their game library 🖥️✨.
Problem:
Big Box currently supports a second-screen marquee feature, which is perfect for dynamic displays—especially on custom setups like arcade cabinets or ultrawide monitors. However, this feature is not available in standard LaunchBox. For users who spend a lot of time organizing, tagging, and perfecting their collections in LaunchBox, the marquee screen goes unused.
This creates friction for those using custom marquee themes or secondary displays. Every time they want to test new artwork, layouts, or controller visuals, they must switch over to Big Box, find the game, and then exit back to LaunchBox to make further changes. This process is tedious and disrupts workflow, especially when fine-tuning visual details.
Proposal:
Enable marquee screen support directly in LaunchBox, mirroring the behavior currently found in Big Box. It could use the same XML-based themes and settings, allowing users to see real-time marquee output as they work on their collection.
Benefits:
Speeds up customization workflows
Makes marquee setups more useful beyond just gameplay
Enhances the LaunchBox experience for users with multi-monitor or arcade-style builds
Encourages more creative uses of the marquee feature (e.g., per-game controls, alternate media, themed overlays) 🕹️🧑🎨
User Insight:
One user noted they use a custom XML marquee theme on their ultrawide screen to show game art, button layouts, and controller images. Without marquee support in LaunchBox, testing those assets adds unnecessary back-and-forth. Making this a shared feature between both modes would make LaunchBox feel more complete and cohesive.
