Games Database Plugin for Steam Deck (Decky Loader)

Summary:

Create a Decky plugin for Steam Deck that integrates with the Games Database, similar to how the current SteamGridDB plugin works. This would allow users to fetch cover art, metadata, and other media assets directly from the Games Database 📚🎮.

Problem:

Steam Deck users currently rely on plugins like SteamGridDB to automatically pull in game artwork and metadata. While this works well, the Games Database often provides broader coverage—especially for niche, retro, or fan-translated titles. Many users find that the Games Database offers more accurate or aesthetically preferred assets for their library.

At the moment, there’s no official plugin or tool that connects the Games Database to Steam Deck via Decky Loader, limiting access to this rich media source.

Proposal:

Develop a Decky Loader plugin that connects the Steam Deck to the Games Database API, allowing users to:

• Search and apply game metadata

• Fetch box art, screenshots, logos, and other media

• Auto-match games based on title or executable

• Optionally choose between different regions, platforms, or styles of artwork 🎨

This would function similarly to the existing SteamGridDB plugin but leverage the Games Database’s broader and more community-focused library.

Benefits:

• Expands customization and media options for Steam Deck users

• Gives users access to artwork and data not found on SteamGridDB

• Strengthens the value and visibility of the Games Database ecosystem

• Makes non-Steam games on Steam Deck look and feel more polished and curated 📱🖼️
