Introduce a feature in LaunchBox that automatically generates box art using platform-specific case templates (e.g., PS2, Blu-ray, PS4, GOG, Steam). This would be especially useful for digital-only games or titles lacking consistent artwork, and it would help visually distinguish games that exist on multiple platforms.
Many digital games, homebrews, or lesser-known titles don’t have official or community-created box art. This leads to a visually inconsistent library where some games have clean cases and others appear blank or generic. It’s also difficult to distinguish between the same game imported under different platforms (e.g., Doom on PC vs. Doom on Xbox).
LaunchBox can automatically generate box art using a set of customizable templates for:
PS2 / PS3 / PS4 / PS5
Xbox 360 / Xbox One
PC (e.g., Games for Windows, DVD, GOG, Steam)
Switch / Nintendo DS / 3DS
Custom templates created by the community
Template would overlay platform-specific case borders and logos on top of any placeholder or provided artwork (e.g., a game screenshot or title logo)
Users can:
Choose a default template per platform
Override templates per game or playlist
Upload their own case styles for use
Include an option to apply these generated covers only when artwork is missing
Ensures a more consistent and visually appealing library across platforms
Makes it easy to distinguish multi-platform games at a glance
Offers a fallback for games without official art, particularly digital or obscure titles
Empowers users and the community to create and share their own branded case templates 🖼️💾📀
