Add an option to boot directly into the BIOS or system menu of a console, instead of launching a specific game. For example, allowing users to access the original PlayStation BIOS to manage memory cards.
Many consoles—like the PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn, or PlayStation 2—include useful built-in BIOS features such as memory card management, system settings, or visual startup sequences. Currently, there’s no straightforward way in LaunchBox to access these BIOS menus without manually setting up a separate entry or workaround.
This is particularly useful for retro purists, or users who want to manage save data natively through the console interface.
Add an option to “Boot into BIOS” for supported platforms. This could be offered as:
A right-click option in the game list (e.g. “Start [Platform] BIOS”)
A toggle in the game launch menu (e.g. “Launch into BIOS instead”)
Or an additional entry auto-generated in the platform’s game list (e.g. a “BIOS” title at the top)
Enables native save file/memory card management
Appeals to retro gaming enthusiasts who prefer an authentic startup experience
Enhances flexibility and accessibility for managing system-level features
Reduces the need for manual workarounds or duplicate entries
BIOS booting may vary by emulator; support could be limited to platforms/emulators where BIOS files are correctly configured
Could start with a few major consoles (PS1, PS2, Saturn) and expand from there
Optionally configurable per platform for advanced users
