Introduce a built-in tool within LaunchBox that allows users to convert disc-based games (such as ISO, BIN/CUE) into more space-efficient formats like CHD, PBP, RVZ, GCZ, NKit, and GZ
Many emulators support modern compressed formats that significantly reduce file size without sacrificing performance. However, users currently rely on third-party tools like CHDMan, NKit, and NAMDHC — many of which are outdated, lack intuitive interfaces, or don’t support modern compression formats like Zstandard. This adds friction and complexity to the game management workflow.
Add a new tool in LaunchBox (e.g., under Tools > Convert Disc Images)
Support converting from ISO, BIN/CUE, and other common disc formats
Output to formats such as:
CHD (for arcade, PS1, Saturn, etc.)
PBP (for PSP)
RVZ / GCZ / NKit (for GameCube/Wii)
GZ (for generic ISO compression)
Include compression options (Zstandard, LZMA, etc.)
Optionally update the associated ROM path in LaunchBox after conversion
Simplifies disc image compression without leaving LaunchBox
Saves disk space with modern, emulator-friendly formats
Encourages better ROM organization and performance
Reduces reliance on outdated or complex third-party tools 🔄📁🎮
